Produce Sourced Locally
Here in the Milwaukee area, we can source produce from a lot of incredible local farms. Ingredients like beets, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes can be sourced locally nearly year round because of their long shelf life. In the spring, we bring in fresh asparagus, radishes, leafy greens like spinach and arugula, and rhubarb. As the summer begins, our recipes feature ingredients like beans, bok choy, cauliflower, corn, peppers, scallions, summer squash, tomatoes, berries, and melons. And, as the fall approaches our shopping list greets brussels sprouts, leeks, winter squash, turnips, apples, and cranberries.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are important to any diet, especially a vegetarian’s, yet what about getting enough protein? While many vegetables contain protein, The Focused Fork will add plant-based proteins to your meals, including beans, legumes, nuts and seeds. If your diet allows, we will add local dairy, including Wisconsin’s amazing assortment of cheeses, which are a great source of protein.
We use as much organic produce as possible in our vegetarian meal delivery service. However, even if a local farm is not certified organic, many farmers live by a high standard in their agricultural practice. Fruits and vegetables are grown in a clean environment, and create less of a carbon footprint when delivered, prepared, and consumed locally.
